Salzbrenner to Bring ABBA’s “Mamma Mia!” to Picketwire Stage for Second Weekend of Shows

Latest News, News Releases, Productions, Summer
By: Ashley Jo Kelley

This summer, director Tracey Salzbrenner decided to bring the pop rock musical “Mamma Mia!” to the Picketwire stage. Picketwire’s 154th show is based on the work of ABBA. Salzbrenner shared, “ABBA’s hits tell the hilarious story of a young woman’s search for her birth father. This sunny and funny tale unfolds on a Greek island paradise. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter’s quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago.”

With the expansiveness of the musical theater world, Salzbrenner is spoiled for choice when it comes to selecting Picketwire’s summer musicals. When asked what she looks for in a show she explained, “I choose the musicals based on the music, I love when you can feel a story through song.” Salzbrenner went on to share that she also takes into account requested works when picking her shows. “I have heard over the years many people wanting to either participate or see this show.” The director was quick to point out that no show is a solo project. “My husband Cameron Salzbrenner, and friends Desiree and Scott Goheen have been here with me through it all from the beginning, this is my tenth direction of a summer show, and my ninth summer at Picketwire. I always say that this does not happen alone, we are truly a team and I am blessed to have them with me every step of the way.” When asked what fans of ABBA can expect Salzbrenner shared, “Fans of ABBA should expect all of their favorite songs sung by our fantastic cast, played by our amazing Orchestra and fun choreography.”  However, intimate knowledge of the 80’s rock band is not necessary to enjoy this musical. “I think that all ages will enjoy this production. There are many upbeat songs that will leave you humming or singing after the show.” Salzbrenner’s lighting design, run by board member and lighting veteran Zach Zamora will be fun to see and the cast is full of energy. As with every production, Picketwire’s cast and crew strive to produce a top-quality production. “Fans of musical theatre should expect a professional production all around.  From the moment you enter the building to the very last minute you leave. We will try to wow you with all aspects of the show from the music to the acting to the amazing lighting that you will see” stated Salzbrenner. In addition to an excellent show, theatergoers can expect to see improvements throughout the theater. “We have had an upgraded sound system, new keyboard for our theatre, and each year we try to bring more and more state-of-the-art lighting” Salzbrenner noted.

Box office is open for “Mamma Mia!” Monday-Friday 5:30-7:00 pm starting July 1st– run of the show. Ticket are $15.00. Tickets can be reserved by calling 719-384-8320 or purchased directly by visiting www.picketwireplayers.org.
