Anastasia Comes to La Junta July 17-20
Inspired by the Beloved Films, The Broadway Musical Anastasia Comes to La Junta July 17-20
LA JUNTA, CO. – Anastasia, the Broadway musical, is making its La Junta debut on July 17-19 at
7:30 p.m. and July 20 at 2:30 p.m. at the Picketwire Theatre.
From the Tony Award-winning creators of the Broadway classic Ragtime, this dazzling show
transports audiences from the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the
1920s, as a brave young woman sets out to discover the mystery of her past. Pursued by a
ruthless Soviet officer determined to silence her, Anya enlists the aid of a dashing conman and
a lovable ex-aristocrat. Together, they embark on an epic adventure to help her find home,
love, and family.
“I’ve been a fan of the animated film since it came out in 1997,” said Anastasia director Heather
Pidcock-Reed. “Thirteen-year-old me loved the idea of an ordinary girl finding out she was
really a princess! When the Broadway version came out in 2017, I fell in love with the beautiful
music and the show’s themes of a young woman finding herself and coming to terms with her
trauma along the way.”

Anastasia was written by celebrated playwright Terrence McNally and includes a lush score by
Stephen Flaherty (music) and Lynn Ahrens (lyrics). The Picketwire production features direction
by veteran director and Otero College theatre arts director Pidcock-Reed, choreography by
Rena Ruiz and Cynthia Fazio, and music direction by Dean Rees.
