The Wisdom of Eve Opens Tomorrow!
“The Wisdom of Eve” is opening this week at the Picketwire Center for Performing and Visual Arts. Set on the Broadway stage during the 1950s, Mary Orr’s novel and subsequent play is a great character study of actors, producers and playwrights.
“This cast is a delight,” declared the director of Picketwire’s upcoming Spring production, Susie Sarlo. “From auditions to the finished production, these actors were meant to play their roles.
Taking on the role of the aging Broadway actress Margo Crane is Elizabeth Leonard. Elizabeth has performed extensively in local theatres throughout the country.
The manipulative Eve is played with precision by Angelica Leija. Angelica has been in many Picketwire productions. Her experience shows as she interprets with precision this difficult character.
Karen Roberts is played by Katie Merewether. Katie is also a returning Picketwire Player and seems to understand Karen’s sophistication and need to be noticed despite not being a performer.
The male leads express multiple layers in their characters. Jeff Reed is a delight to watch as the playwright, Lloyd Roberts. He demonstrates the right balance between calm and frustration.
Demian Ryder, as Clement Howell, is the rock of the group. He never gets flustered and seems to keep the story and its characters calm.
Tally Ho Thompson is brilliantly played by Matthew Snyder. He is great fun to watch – despite the fact that his news article starts the dismantling of what was previously a good group of friends.
