We asked the cast some questions about their production of Oklahoma!

Bethany Taullie said “I think the show has a little bit of something for everybody! The show started the golden age of musical theater and revolutionized the structure of theatrical performances.”

When asked what was challenging about bringing the script to life Darlene Blackford said “staying authentic to the story and the times.” Darlene wanted to be involved in this production because she loved the music and feels that it is an American classic.

Bonnie Grossen says what she loves about her character Aunt Eller is that “she’s a salty old gal and really connected to the emotional undercurrents of the characters.” She loved sharing this role with Darlene, exploring the different ways of showing the Aunt Eller character.

When asked who would enjoy this show, Jonathan Colson said “anyone that loves classic musicals that bring plenty of emotions.”

New to the Picketwire stage, Emma Bryant said “she wanted to be involved in this production because she wanted an opportunity to be in a show outside of an academic setting and that she loves all the songs in this show.” Her favorite line from the production is “do you want me to get that eggbeater and ram it down your windpipe” said by Aunt Eller.

When asking the cast who they feel the funniest person in the show is, the answers were almost all the same, Tom Seaba. Tom said what he thinks will surprise people is the staging, “it’s amazing what big things are able to be done on that small-ish stage.” When leaving the theatre Tom said, “Audience members will think about and appreciate the amount and quality of talent that lives and thrives in our communities. I hope more and more of our friends and neighbors come out to support and enjoy their performances.”

Tim Baublits said that “he loves playing Ike Skidmore because his dad played Ike in the 1977 production of Oklahoma with the Boggsville Players, so it comes full circle.” Tim is also celebrating his 44th season with Picketwire!

Jansen Ediger said that, “the cast has a lot of fun together and she hopes that comes across offstage“ her favorite part about playing Gertie is she gets to be giggly, don’t miss this one of a kind laugh!

Matthew Snyder said when asked what the most challenging part about bringing the script to life is, “personally singing has not been something I typically do, the opportunity to sing a solo part in front of an audience is/will be the most challenging thing I’ve done.”

Matthew McIntyre, a first timer to the Picketwire stage, said when asked what he thinks is going to surprise people most about the show, “how great the singing and the talent is and how great each actor is for each role.” His favorite part about his character is, “being with all the guys and starting a revolution. It’s a scandal will always stay with me.”
